The Alpkit Dirtbag….. this mat is the bee’s knees… I only have positive things to say about this bad boy. For £50, this is a bargain and I can see this being used not only for wild camping but at stop off’s at peoples houses & road trips. Weighing in at 880g it is on the heavier end of mats, and their are a lot more lighter mats on the market that pack down a lot smaller, but when it comes to comfort this really is comfortable and more importantly keeps you warm. On a 650 mile walk, I don’t mind carrying the extra weight, ensuring that my sleep in the nights are comfortable. If you take a look at Walks & Talks with a friend , I briefly touched on the Therm A Rest Neoair. So in comparing the Dirtbag to that, comfort wise this wins. The Thermarest does pack down to the size of my fist, it did keep me warm, but for comfort, it didn’t work for me. It was too narrow, and I’m a one of those strange side, front sleepers. Also it took ages to blow up, it’s one of this blow up mats, hence how it packs down so small. This Dirtbag is a self inflating mat, where apparently you open the valve and it blows itself by sucking the air in. In works in a way, but you still have a give it a good 10 exhales.
